A team of students in the College of Law's Community Empowerment Law Project will study youth employment and child labor in the south central Iowa workforce region and help both employers and workers understand best practices as well as state and federal regulations. 

Students enrolled in the School of Planning and Public Affairs Public Policy and Persuasion course worked with key stakeholders to develop a set of proposed policy solutions for creating additional workforce housing options for Maquoketa residents.  

Students from the School of Journalism & Mass Communication created strategic communications plan for community leaders in Manning with the goal of attracting new residents to the area. 

As part of their capstone project, second-year graduate students from the School of Urban & Regional Planning developed strategies and recommendations to position and market Jackson County as a top choice in the region for young families making residential location decisions. 

Undergraduate students in the Entrepreneurial Management Institutes’ Business Consulting Course will partner with the Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council to complete research on strategies for supporting the rural workforce of Woodbury County.

The City of Iowa City requested that students in the Entrepreneurial Management Institutes’ Business Consulting Course research what young professionals are looking for in a place to live, create messages that the City and ICAD could use to market the ways in which Iowa City fulfills these criteria, and research the strategies and platforms that the City and ICAD can use to reach young professionals most effectively.

Students in the School of Library and Information Science partnered with Sioux City Public Library Director Betsy Thompson to identify potential community partners who had a stake in and wanted to develop community partnerships in support of early childhood literacy. 

Student in the School of Urban and Regional Planning conducted a project that evaluated the workforce of Cedar Rapids and determined the gap between supply and demand for quality workers. Students sought to understand the reasons for both attracting and retaining new workers.
