Boone County Nature Center Design and Engineering
As part of the Senior Design Capstone Course, Civil & Environmental Engineering students provided design alternatives for a Nature Center building in Boone County.
Boone County Conservation's mission is to protect, conserve, and maintain our natural resources and provide education and recreation for the benefit of current and future generations. The conservation board and executive director Tanner Sheuermann believe that a sustainably designed nature center can help educate citizens and visitors about the importance of the surrounding environment, while also serving as an opportunity for them to better connect with nature. Civil and Environmental Engineering students provided design and engineering plans for a multipurpose building that incorporates lean energy sources, showcases green technology, and features an interior display and interaction area. The building was designed to blend with the native ecosystem. The project also required the students to provide designs for site development, road access, parking, and drainage.
