As part of their Senior Design Capstone course, Civil & Environmental Engineering student designed a method to protect county roads and bridges from the migration of the Skunk River in Keokuk County. 

The Skunk River has been migrating toward Keokuk County Route W15, the highest traffic volume secondary road in Keokuk County. Future migration of the river could compromise the integrity of the roadbed and jeopardize this vital route in the County. Additionally, river migration could minimize the benefit of replacing the existing 619' bridge over the main Skunk River channel that was completed in 2004. The students provided an analysis of options to protect the existing infrastructure.
