Income inequality is quickly becoming one of the most pressing problems facing cities. Growing concentrations of affluence and poverty can directly or indirectly lead to inequitable access to employment, education and public services. Critical to the effort to maintain healthy neighborhoods appealing to diverse populations is the preservation of affordable housing. In Iowa City, meeting this challenge is a significant goal of the comprehensive plan.
