Iowa City earns 4-STAR certification

Iowa City has earned certification as a 4-STAR Community for its work in economic, social and environmental sustainability. The city received its certification Wednesday from the Sustainability Tools for Assessing and Rating Communities, or STAR Communities, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that works to evaluate and improve sustainability within communities.

Sioux City is one step closer to installing bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly crosswalks. Two weeks ago, the City Council adopted an active transportation plan that recommends bike and pedestrian improvements in the city, including bike lanes, safer sidewalks and crosswalks, timelines for implementation and costs for the proposed projects.
