North Liberty Showcase Pavilion & Outdoor Performance Venue- Design & Engineering
As part of their Senior Design Capstone course, Civil & Environmental Engineering students prepared a design report and cost estimates for a "Showcase Pavilion & Outdoor Performance Venue" in North Liberty's Centennial Park.
The City of North Liberty, Iowa expressed it’s need for a multi-functional facility to serve the community. Centennial Park has quickly developed into a popular hub for events such as North Liberty Blues and BBQ. This project was developed and designed to enhance these events with the creation of a mid-century modern style enclosed pavilion that features both an indoor and outdoor stage, patio area, and large interior gathering area.
Civil & Environmental Engineering students prepared a design report to help North Liberty achieve their goals for this unique addition to their park system. Students provided a building design including a stage layout, oulined sanitary sewer service, conducted stormwater analysis, and provided designs for the sidewalk, access road, and parking.
The climate-controlled, pavilion will host community events and private rentals, including weddings and conferences, for up to 400 people year-round, offer a food-service area, restrooms and serve as a backstage and greenroom for the outdoor stage. The covered stage, in addition to serving as outdoor patio for the pavilion, will play host to variety of performances in the park, including community plays, festivals and nationally touring musicians, and be able to support a variety of supplemental sound, lighting and other production needs. The venue will artfully complement the surrounding parkland, home to the state’s largest bioswale.
