The Iowa Small Systems Waste Project
Senior engineering students researched existing commercial small-scale wastewater systems for Iowa City and designed a facility for several different kinds of these small systems to be tested for use in Iowa.
This project was focused on the creation of a small systems wastewater system for use in Iowa communities with less than 5,000 people. Waste water plants that are larger than necessary can lead to significant costs for the communities served by them, which provides incentives towards the need for effective small-scale systems for Iowa’s small communities.
The deliverables for this project included a site plan; pump building plan; and piping configuration for a "small systems" testing facility to be built on the grounds of the Iowa City Wastewater Treatment Plant.
